Waskom Friday Night Football in District 11-3A Division II, in Elysian Fields was action-packed, a comeback kid story of offensive football, with outstanding gridiron exchanges for both offenses with fumbles and breakaway touchdowns.
The Yellowjackets crossed the goal line first with a 2-yard burst by Michael Ramirez, stung first scoring by putting 6 points on the board, to miss the point after. The Elysian sting did not stop there when Yellowjacket Christavian Smith stole the ball, running 83-yards for a touchdown, leaving the Wildcats at a 13-O minus, starting the second quarter.
The Wildcats rallied in the second quarter with a roar when T.K. Hamilton took a 2-yard sprint to put 6 on the scoreboard, with the point after, making it 13-7. Raymond Ramirez adding 6 for the Wildcat Nation with the point after. Waskom held the score to 14-13 lead at halftime.
The Yellowjackets would not be out done and stunned the Wildcats with a 30 second score into the 4th quarter, on a 4-yard run by Yellowjacket Michael Ramirez.
The Waskom wave answered the second half of the game with a 76-yard race by T.K. “Touchdown” Hamilton for 6 points and Jacob “Rumbling” Reeves made his contribution with a TD writing on the Wildcat Nation wall a 28-13 lead going into the 4th quarter.
Ryan Wilkerson for Elysian Fields added 6 more with the scoreboard clock showing 2:38 left to play and the Yellowjackets needed 2 to tie and 3 to win. The scoreboard showed Waskom at 28-26, the clock ticked on. The Waskom Nation Wall held the Elysian Field offense.
There were as many completed passes as there were interceptions, both teams stealing first downs and touchdowns from one another. A total of 6 drives were exchanged with turnovers, 2 fumbles, 4 interceptions and both defenses were exceptional.
Waskom has the homefield advantage next Friday night hosting Dangerfield. Elysian Fields hits the road to play Paul Hewitt.
