Tuesday, October 23 is the date for this year’s annual fire department fundraiser dinner and auction. The event will be held at Waskom Middle School Cafeteria. Again this year, Catfish Express will prepare and serve a fish dinner from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $12 a plate and carryout meals will be available. Persons are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance if possible to provide an estimate of the number of persons to be served a meal. Some meal tickets will also be available at the door.
Beginning at 6:00, Jack Dillard will conduct an auction of items donated by area businesses and individuals. Members of the Waskom Fire Department have already begun contacting area businesses requesting donations of auction items. VFD members will have a letter signed by Chief King requesting donations to present to each business contacted and will also have their department ID. Businesses or individuals wanting to donate an auction item may contact Chief King at (903) 687-3798 or Assistant Chief Jerry Hall at (903) 926-3682. When each item is auctioned, the donor’s name is announced to the audience, providing public acknowledgment of the donor’s support auction donation. Cash and non-cash donations to the fire department are tax deductible.
During the auction, three drawings will be held for a Wal-mart gift certificates, one for $50, a second for $100, and a third for $150. The winners do not have to be present for the drawing. For each donation of $1.00, a person will receive one ticket for the drawing; for each $5.00 donation, 6 tickets; for a $10.00 donation, 12 tickets; for a $20.00 donation, 25 tickets; and for a $100.00 donation, 150 tickets.
