A community meeting is being convened on Tuesday, at 6:00 PM, November 7, 2017 at the Lions Club room, located in the Middle School, 255 School Ave, Waskom, TX 75692. The meeting will be headed by Lions Club President, WISD Superintendent Jimmy Cox.
During the last 2 years, the East Texas Food Bank Mobile Pantry has been providing food supplements for the needy, serving over 100 families every month. Waskom’s Mobile Pantry is about to permanently close its doors, due to the lack of funding. It is now up to the Waskom community to establish its own pantry, to ensure that the needy families continue to receive their monthly boxes of food allotments from the East Texas Food Bank.
At the meeting, community leaders are set to discuss the continuance of the East Texas Food Bank serving the Waskom area. A committee proposal has been submitted for officers to be nominated and the creation of a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, should the Waskom community elect to proceed as the East Texas Food Bank’s permanent food pantry.
Matters pertaining to monthly support, the organization, website, social media, funding sources and opportunities, donations, and set-up of a proposed “Waskom Community Food Pantry” will continue to be tabled, along with the need for transportation/delivery, administration and distribution compliance, as a community-based and funded service.
It is the heart of the community, to meet the needs of the people, in conjunction with FUMC Pastor Sherry Crenshaw, FBC Pastor Dr. Ivy Shelton and FIBC Pastor Doug Lovett, led by WISD Supt. Jimmy Cox and Lions Club Coordinator Marty Vaughan.
The community, local and regional businesses and all Waskom residents are invited to attend this meeting.
