The Waskom Public Library recently celebrated their 20th year anniversary, helmed by Librarian Willa Bose. Today, Friends of The Library held a gathering and a luncheon with featured guest speaker, Waskom Mayor Jesse Moore.
Mayor Moore provided updates on the opening of the highly anticipated Waskom Community Center and continued development of the surrounding areas that include the community park and recreation expansion for the citizens of Waskom. A Splash Pool is in the works, with a projected 2019 grant for the city in the amount of $160,000. 00 dollars for expansions with a 50/50 incentive for the grant approval.
The Waskom Community Center has 150 occupant capacity for events and programs, with the “Movies In The Park” returning soon, with extended parking accommodations for visitors and guests.
Librarian Willa Bose and community leader Marty Vaughan preciously received plaques of commendation for their outstanding contributions to the Waskom Library and their commitment to the growth and development of the Waskom community.
Ms. Bose will be retiring from her position at the Waskom Public Library and the Friends of the Library were in attendance with Waskom’s Terry Sloan, taking on the title of Librarian to continue the services to the Waskom community.
In attendance today were Ruby DeMoss, Mary Ann Collins, Barbara Norris, Beverly Holquin, Gene & Sue Gardner, Julia Gill and City Executive Tammy Lofton, among others.
The Waskom Public Library promotes readership, health clinics, workshops, children and Summer programs with guest speakers. The Library welcomes and invites community contributions in funding public services and programs from student educational services, entertainment, to health and medical programs and information. Waskom Public Library welcomes membership and sponsorships.
There is computer access and research sources for school research and papers.
