First Baptist Church of Waskom held its Valentine’s Day Banquet last Sunday night, getting a head-start on this week of love for sweethearts, loved ones and family members. The congregation and visitors dined in the Fellowship Hall, enjoying a grand feast prepared by the Kitchen Committee and Youth Ministry.
The evening event was hosted by FBC Youth Ministers Jacob and Amy Speight, with Jay and Katie Lowry. Music Director Barry LeBlanc sang a solo song to his wife of 19 years, Angel, as a Valentine’s Day tribute.
A “Dating Game” question and answer contest was emceed by FBC Youth members, Evey Lankford and Hannah Speight. From the four competing couples, FBC’s Pastor Ivy and Aimee Shelton placed second, Alex and Carrie Macklin in third place, with Jim & Jeralyn Hovingh taking first place.
Special thanks were given to Kitchen Committee, FBC Deacons Paul and Karen Gibbs and Jim and Nancy Dillard, with the Youth Ministry Serving Crew, Preston Speight, Gracie Speight, Stone Lankford, Emma Crisp and Daniel Shelton, to name a few.
First Baptist Church served the Word of God by Dr. Ivy and Aimee Shelton in the morning services. On a cold Sunday night, the warmth of church fellowship was especially appreciated by church members and visitors from the Waskom community who attended the Valentine Banquet.
